Súla is a beautifully designed wool sweater that is part of the family pattern collection from Icewear. The pattern is available in sizes ranging from 3 years to XXL. The design features a classic Icelandic lopapeysa pattern that is pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to knit. 

The sweater is knitted with the soft Saga Wool yarn from Icewear, and the pattern includes instructions for knitting the sweater in two different ways: the traditional method, where you start from the bottom and knit upwards, and an alternative method, where you start from the top and knit downwards.

Bust circumference: 35-36¾ -38½ -42 -43¾ -47¼  in (89-93-98-106.5-111-120 cm) 

Womens body length to underarm: 15¼ -15¾ -16¼ -16½ -17-17¼  in (39-40-41-42-43-44 cm) 

Womens sleeve length to underarm: 17¼ 18-18¼ -18½ -19-19¼  in (44-45-46-47-48-49 cm) 

Mens body length to underarm: 16-6½ -17-17¼ -17¾ -18 in (41-42-43-44-45-46 cm) 

Mens sleeve length to underarm: 19-19¼ -19¾ -20-20½ -21 in (48-49-50-51-52-53 cm) 

 

Yarn 

Saga wool from Icewear, 100% wool, 50g (100 m/ 109 yd) 

Color 1 (9063/1000): 250-300-350-400 450 g 

Color 2 (9115/9115): 150-200-200-250-250 g 

Color 3 (1000/9066): 100-100-100-150-150 g 

 

Needles 

US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 8 (5 mm), 40 and 80 cm circular needles 

US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 8 (5 mm) double pointed needles 

 

Gauge 

4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm) = 18 sts and 24 rounds in stockinette stitch on needles US 8 (5 mm). 

 

Directions 

The ribbings at the bottom of the body, sleeves and the collar are knitted flat; k 1 st, p 1 s, repeat.Other than that, the sweater is knitted in the round with stockinette stitch and stranded knitting on the yoke and at the bottom of the body and sleeves.  

Two purled sts are knitted mid front. The beginning of the round is between these two purled sts. 
Sew on a sewing machine into the purled sts before the sweater is cut open.  

After cutting, sts are picked up to knit the button band. 

The pattern is written in two ways; to knit the sweater bottom up or top down.
